Barbara coming into First Drop. When the water is low like it was today, the water swirls around the rocks rather than going over them which is why so many rafts turn sideways going into the swift current of the falls. Most people try to stay straight by paddling hard, but what works best going in is to back-paddle or use the paddle as a rudder (brake) to steer straight, then once in paddle thru. This is Barbara's second year rafting with our group.
